Korea name preliminary roster for World Cup preparations

7’3” center Ha Seung-Jin has been added to Korea’s 24-man preliminary roster ahead of the FIBA World Cup of Basketball after a two-year absence.

Jin, who had a short playing career with the Portland Trailblazers and then in the NBA D-League now plays his basketball in Korea for Jeonju and has impressed head coach Yoo Jae-Hak.

“Ha Seung-Jin is healthier than ever,” coach Yoo Jae-Hak said. “For the past two years, no one in our team has been taller than 6ft 9in Kim Jongkyu.”

However, Eric Sandrin, who goes the Korean name of Lee Seung Jung is not on the roster due to an injury. Jarod Stevenson [Moon Tae-Jong] is included in his place.

“We are disappointed that Lee [Sandrin] could not recover in time for training with the national team,” Yoo said.

“We must accept the doctor’s advice for his complete recovery.

“Considering how well Lee was playing for us, I am confident that we have not seen the last of him.”

The Koreans will be playing their opening round games at the World Cup in Group D, alongside Australia, Lithuania, Slovenia, Angola and Mexico.
