Liga Endesa round up (week 28)

With Real Madrid and Barcelona in Euroleague action, the Liga Endesa schedule was missing its most established clubs.

Second-placed Valencia were in action as they prepare for their Eurocup final next week. They defeated Estudiantes 88-80 on the road to maintain their spot, which is looking more and more like theirs.

The victors were led by Justin Doellman’s 24 points, but the American and Bojan Dubljevic’s 12 points were the only notable contribution in scoring for Valencia. Federico Van Lacke led five Estudiantes scorers with 16 points.

Unicaja Malaga also won on the road, as they were 91-81 winners at Zaragoza.

Serbian international Vladimir Stimac led Unicaja with 17 points as they stay fourth, two losses behind Barca.

Laboral Kutxa secured a 92-88 away win over Tenerife. A strong second half from the visitors was key to their success as they continue their climb towards the top half of the table. They currently lie in seventh.

Cajasol Seville were thankful for a strong start in a 97-72 road win over Bruixa d’Or. Seville remain in the final playoff spot, while Bruixa d’Or are out of the post-season places.

Home teams were able to gain some success this week as Bilbao defeated struggling Murcia 82-69. A fourth quarter burst was enough as the visitors struggled in the last few minutes to compete with the depth of the hosts.

Alex Mumbru led Bilbao with 20 points and 7 rebounds.

Fuenlabrada scored a surprise home win against Gipuzkoa, beating them 81-67.  Carlos Cabezas led the victors with 17 points as they pulled clear in the third period to secure the victory.

Rio Monbus nearly squandered a double-digit lead but were able to hang on as a Pavel Pumpria lay-up with 12 seconds left was enough for an 84-83 win over bottom club Valladolid.

The visitors did have an opportunity to win it, but a three-pointer from Omari Johnson was long.
