Liga Endesa round up (week 27)

Real Madrid maintained their unbeaten run in the Liga Endesa with a 71-64 win at Estudiantes.

Holding a slender 34-33 lead at the half-time interval, the league leaders pulled clear in the third quarter to lead 55-43 and from there, Madrid never looked back.

14 points and 7 assists from Sergio Rodriguez led the way for Real Madrid, as they maintain their three-game lead at the top of the table with seven games left. They have two away games against Valencia and rivals Barcelona in that stretch.

Valencia stays in second with a comfortable 75-62 win at home against Fuenlabrada as they prepare for the Real Madrid game in two weeks time.

Fuenlabrada are in a three-way tie for 12th but were easily second best against the Eurocup finalists. Romain Sato led the winners with 13 points.

Barcelona defended home court by beating Monbus 77-62, as the Catalan side remain in third. Monbus however remain outside the playoff places.

Bostjan Nachbar led Barca with 20 points with fellow Slovenian Erazem Lorbek adding 18 points in the win as they look certain to be part of the post-season picture.

Fourth-placed Unicaja Malaga were relentless in their 109-74 drubbing of Bilbao, leaving the Eurocup side slipping down the table as they go to 12th.

Nik Caner-Medley exploded for 26 points in the comprehensive victory.

Gran Canaria slipped up in their charge for home court advantage in the playoffs. They were beaten 73-60 at Cajasol Seville.

The hosts pulled away early as they held Gran Canaria to just 9 points in the second quarter, as Seville led 34-19 at half-time and maintained their strong momentum throughout.

Marcus Mata paced Cajasol with 17.

Joventut Badalona warmed up for next week’s trip to the capital to face Real Madrid with a straight forward 82-57 win.

After a close first quarter, Badalona raced clear in the second quarter and kept the tempo going to start the second half as they sealed an easy win. Devoe Joseph and Albert Miralles led Joventut with 13 points each.

Laboral Kutxa thumped Bruixa d’Or 101-78 to 21 points from Giuseppe Poeta and Murcia edged basement side Valladolid 75-70 thanks to 14 points from Tunisian Makrem Ben Romdhane.

Gipuzkoa defeated Tenerife 70-66 as the winners stormed out to an early 26-9 lead after one, and despite a fightback from Tenerife, were always trailing.
