Galatasaray complete QF line-up, Euroleague Top 16 round up

Galatasaray are the last team through to the Euroleague quarter-finals after they defeated Partizan 64-55 at the Adbi Ipecki Arena.

It was win or go home for the Turkish side after Lokomotiv Kuban beat Bayern Munich to keep their hopes alive but a dominant second period where Galatasaray’s lead reached to double digits proved to be enough as they sailed home and into the last eight.

“We did an excellent job in here tonight,” Galatasaray coach Ergin Ataman said. “We fell behind and had disadvantages in the second half of the Top 16. We began to fight again after the win in Krasnodar. We played five crucial games after Krasnodar and won four of them. And we almost won that CSKA game in Moscow. I want to congratulate my team; we had a tough Euroleague season.

“We played 24 Euroleague games to accomplish this. This is a great success to qualify into best eight teams in Europe. A lot of injuries had hit us, but we didn’t give up.”

Manuchar Markoishvili led the Turkish team with 16 points, with Zoran Erceg and Furkan Aldemir adding 13.

A 36-point haul from Justin Dentmon ensured that Zalgiris ended their Euroleague season on a high after they beat Real Madrid 87-80 in Kaunas.

Dentmon hit seven triples on his way to a season record of 74 in the win. A record previously held by Montepaschi Siena’s Terrell McIntyre in the 2007-2008 season.

The Lithuanian champions broke away in the fourth quarter in what was a tight game. They held Madrid scoreless for the first three minutes allowing them to pull clear. Despite the win, their fate was determined a few weeks back.
