Charles Barkley scored 56 points in a playoff game on this date in 1994

Charles Barkley led the Phoenix Suns to a 140-133 victory at the Golden State Warriors to clinch a sweep of their first-round series.

Barkley was unstoppable. He had 38 points in the first half and finished with 56. He also grabbed 14 rebounds. He was very efficient, finishing 23-31 on field goal attempts including 3-4 on 3-pointers.

Future Hall of Fame inductee Chris Mullin finished with 30 points for the Warriors but it was not enough to avoid getting swept.

Barkley averaged 27.6 points, 13 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.5 steals per game in 10 playoff games in 1994.

In the second round of the playoffs, Barkley led the Suns to a 2-0 lead over the Houston Rockets. Both wins came on the road. Despite the strong start, Hakeem Olajuwon helped the Rockets come back in the series and led them to 104-94 victory in Game 7.

The Rockets went on to beat the New York Knicks in seven games in the 1994 NBA Finals.
