Isaiah Thomas led the Boston Celtics to a home victory over the Washington Wizards in Game 2 of their second-round series. The Celtics won 129-119 in overtime and took a 2-0 lead in the series.

Thomas willed the Celtics to the victory on what would have been his sister’s 23rd birthday. She was killed in a car accident a few weeks earlier.

“The least I can do is go out there and play for her,” Thomas said after the game.

He went 18-33 on field-goal attempts, including 5-12 on 3-pointers. He also went 12-13 on free throws, including calmly making both of his attempts to tie the game with 14 seconds remaining. Washington’s Bradley Beal and John Wall both missed shots at the end of regulation.

In overtime Thomas outscored the Wizards 9-5 by himself.

Wall was excellent for Washington in the loss, finishing with 40 points and 13 assists.

The Celtics went on to eliminate the Wizards in seven games but lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in five games in the Eastern Conference Finals.
