Former NBA player Kermit Washington fears he will die of coronavirus in prison if not released

Kermit Washington has reportedly asked to be transferred from prison to house arrest since he is at high risk for coronavirus.

He is 68-years-old and is afraid due to his age and the rapid spread of the virus in prison. He is currently serving a sentence for embezzling money that was supposed to go to a charity helping children in Africa.

Washington played 10 seasons in the NBA, spending the majority of his career with the Los Angeles Lakers and Portland Trail Blazers. He was an all-star in 1979-80 with Portland.

He became famous for severely injuring Rudy Tomjanovich in a fight. In the midst of a skirmish Tomjanovich said he ran in to try to break up the fight. Washington said he didn’t realize this and punched him. Tomjanovich suffered a serious skull injury but went on to make a full recovery. He is now a Hall of Famer.

Tomjanovich said he wishes the best for Washington. It is not yet known if Washington will be granted house arrest.
