2014 BBL Cup final in Birmingham close to a sell-out

Sunday’s British Basketball League Cup final at the National Indoor Arena in Birmingham is close to a sell-out, league sources say.

The highly-anticipated BBL Cup final between the Leicester Riders and the Newcastle Eagles, a rematch of last year’s epic final is under 500 tickets away from a complete 9,000 capacity and the league’s Chief Operating Officer, Andy Webb is more than delighted with the volume of ticket sales.

“It’s incredibly exciting to be planning yet another BBL Cup Final at the NIA and to have so many people eager to attend and enjoy the day,” Webb commented. “However, there are less than 500 tickets still remaining and so to avoid disappointment, its imperative fans act swiftly and make a purchase soon, because we are fully expecting a 9,000 sell-out.

“We are particularly thrilled to be building on the attendance of 8,500 recorded at the 2013 BBL Play-off final at Wembley Arena which proved to be a fitting climax to last season.”

In addition to the final between the Riders and the Eagles, the fans in Birmingham will also be treated to a dunk contest and an international game between England and Ireland which promises to be an intriguing match-up.

Ireland scored an upset win over England at last year’s Cup final event, and despite only having a handful of players available from last year’s squad, Ireland coach Mark Keenan is hopeful for back-to-back wins.

The day though will be headlined by the top two teams in Great Britain right now. The Riders won the Cup final last year and defeated the Eagles in the play-off final at Wembley last May.
