For the Celtics, Larry Bird had 36 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists. Kevin McHale had 27 points, 15 rebounds and six blocks.

Jordan’s 63 points remains the record for the most points scored in a single playoff game. Elgin Baylor is the only other player to top 60 points in a postseason game. He had 61 in 1962.

After the game, Bird said “That was God disguised as Michael Jordan.”

Despite Jordan’s heroic effort, the Celtics swept the Bulls and went on to win the 1986 NBA Finals. Bird was the Finals MVP.
