Next round picture becoming clear, Eurocup round up

Spirou Charleroi upset Bilbao 79-73 at the Spirou Dome for their first win of the Eurocup season in Group B.

With the game tied at 73-73 with 1:30 remaining, free throws from Darryl Watkins and Demond Mallet sealed the win for the Belgian side and restored some sort of pride for their fans.

Bilbao, however suffer their fourth straight loss and move to 4-4 in the group.

Eurocup veteran Mallet was outstanding as he led the winners with 19 points. Watkins added 18 as well as 9 rebounds.

Dairis Bertans led Bilbao with 16 points.

The other game in Group B saw Dinamo Sassari beat Elan Chalon 82-80 thanks to a game-winner from Travis Diener.

The road win maintains Sassari’s share of first place in the group at 6-2 while the French side fall to 3-5 and have a slim chance of progression.

Ratiopharm Ulm all but eliminated Paris Levallois from this season’s Eurocup after they beat them 56-48 in a low scoring game at the Ratiopharm Arena.

The German side had already qualified from the group and have improved to 7-1 as a result. Paris drop to 2-6.

Will Clyburn collected 10 points plus 8 rebounds to lead in victory. Daniel Ewing led all scorers in vain for the French side with 18.

Gravelines comfortably defeated Mons 85-53 on the road as they improve to 6-2 and are on the verge of a spot in the next round via Group D.

The visitors pulled away in the second quarter following a closely contested first period with a 17-2 run to take the lead out to 43-22 and they never looked back from there.

John Holland, Juby Johnson and Ousmane Camara all had 14 points to lead the victors. Mons, who were led by Jason Love’s game-high 16 points fall to 1-7 and are eliminated from Group D.

Khimik Yukhne thrashed Alba Fehervar 81-52 to all but seal a Round of 32 place and eliminate the Hungarian side as they drop to 1-7.

Matt Gatens led Khimik with 17 points.
