The Detroit Pistons confirmed via ESPN that rookie Sekou Doumbouya returned to France to be near his family during the pandemic.

Despite that the NBA advised the players to avoid travel, any NBA athlete could choose to go to another city with the consent of his team.

The Pistons are aware that the 19-year-old Doumbouya is in France, and that he left to be closer to his family during these unprecedented times.

Detroit drafted Doumbouya in the first round last year. A native of Guinea, he averaged 6.4 points in his first 38 games of his NBA career.
