Worcester Wolves remain unbeaten in the BBL, following an 80-71 road victory over the Newcastle Eagles on Friday night.
The Wolves are now 6-0 this season and stand alone on the top of the BBL while Newcastle have dropped their second game in seven.
Zaire Taylor led the Wolves’ scoring with 25 points, while Will Creekmore proved to be another vital component in Worcester’s win with a double-double of 16 points and 17 rebounds.
Scott Martin led Newcastle with 17 points.
“Newcastle is never an easy place to come to, but we dug deep,” said Worcester coach Paul James. “We were behind the pace in the first half, but in the second half we controlled the boards, got stops when we needed to and then executed our offences. It was an outstanding team performance.”
London Lions came out strong after their week break with two home wins over the weekend. They beat Plymouth Raiders 100-92 in an exciting contest on Friday night thanks to 22 points from Julius Joseph and a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds from Matthew Bryan-Amaning.
The Lions then edged a tired-looking Glasgow Rocks side 80-77 on Sunday, as the Scottish side didn’t recover quite in time following an 81-72-overtime loss to the champion Leicester Riders.
Rashad Hassan denied Glasgow the win with a bucket to force overtime and he helped the Riders gain the edge in the extra period to get the win.
Hassan and Anthony Rowe led the champions with 16 points each. EJ Harrison and Great Britain international Gareth Murray had 16 each the Rocks.
Plymouth made up for the defeat to the Lions with an 85-73 home victory over the Durham Wildcats on Sunday afternoon.
Matt Presley led the Devon side with 20 points while Ralph Bucci led Durham with a game-high 21.
Durham’s weekend had started badly with an 81-67 defeat to the Sheffield Sharks in Yorkshire.
Mike Tuck led the Sharks with 21 points.
Elsewhere in the BBL, Manchester Giants picked up their first win of the season with a 101-83 win over Birmingham Knights who are themselves still without a win.
David Aliu was in inspired form as he led all scorers with 34 points for the Giants. Brent Benson had 29 for the winless Knights.
Anther team still to taste victory are Surrey United and they are still waiting after losing 99-73 away at Cheshire Phoenix.
Gerald Robinson led the victorious Phoenix with 27 points. Ceslovas Kucinskas secured a monstrous double-double of 23 points and 25 rebounds for Surrey.
