20-game marathon reviewed, Eurocup round up

All 20 games in the Eurocup from Wednesday night in review.

Group A

CEZ Nymburk defeated Cibona Zagreb 84-76 to claim their first win of the Eurocup season.

Rasid Mahalbasic led all scorers with 25 points to lead the Czech side as Darryl Strawberry’s 18 points came to nothing for Cibona.

Pinar Karisyaka won 80-72 on the road against CSU Pioiesti.

Bobby Dixon led the winners with 25 points as the Turkish side broke away in the second quarter and never looked back.

Cantu scored an impressive 77-65 away win also at Le Mans.

The visitors were in control for the majority of the contest and the hosts knew the game was up when they trailed 57-43. Le Mans battled away but the win was secured for the Italian side.

Joe Ragland had a game-high 23 points for Cantu.

Group B

Cedevita Zagreb ran out 88-75 winners at home to Spirou Charleroi.

Nolan Smth had 20 points to lead the Croats. The Belgian side were fronted by Mohamed Abukar’s game-high 27, as they drop to 0-2.

Bilbao needed overtime to beat Dinamo Sassari 100-94.

Sassari had originally put the game into an extra period thanks a last gasp put-back from Caleb Green, but Bilbao took control of overtime thanks to center Antanas Kavailauskas, who scored 21 points to lead Bilbao.

Drake Diener led Sassari with 23.

Group C

Asvel got its first win of the Eurocup campaign with a hard-fought 64-56 win over Union Olimpija.

A 9-0 run towards the end of the fourth was the killer blow for the Slovenians, as they slip to their first defeat.

Edwin Brown and Chris Wright each led the French side with 12 points.

Varese secured their first win of the Eurocup season with a 77-71 home win over Paris-Levallois.

Keydren Clark led the victors with 21 points.

17 points from Justin Doellman helped Valencia to an 88-74 win over Ratiopharm Ulm.

The Spanish side move to 2-0 and top the Group C standings.

Group D

Alba Berlin edged Zaragoza 71-68 for second win in the group stages.

David Logan led the German side with 18 points and four steals. Zaragoza, who had Leon Radosevic limp off court after just seven minutes were led by Giorgi Shermadini with 14 points.

Gravelines secured a 74-66 home win over Telekom Bonn. Marcus Lewis led the winners with 16 points in a comfortable win for the hosts.

Group E

BC Khimki bounced back from last week’s loss to beat Lukoil Academic 85-79 in Sofia.

Marko Popovic led all scorers with 25 points for the Russians as they pulled away in the fourth to secure the win.

Davin White had 18 to lead the Bulgarians.

Hapoel Jerusalem were 74-67 winners over Igkea as the Israelis move to 2-0 while dropping their Bosnian counterparts to 0-2.

Derwin Kitchen led the winners with 17 points.

Group F

Khimik Yuzhne survived a late scare to beat Nizhny Novgorod 78-76.

Khimik led throughout the game but were pegged back in the final period by the Russians who had a chance at forcing overtime, but Brandon Paul’s shot at the buzzer missed.

Jamal Shuler paced the victors with 18 points.

Game-winning free throws from Kostas Charalampidis earned PAOK an 89-88 road win at Alba Fehervar.

Michael Tsairelis had 21 points for the winners.

Group G

Maccabi Haifa got an 86-83 road win over MZT Skopje as they came back from a double-digit deficit to get the win.

Ike Ofoegbu led five players in double-digit scoring for the visitors with 18 points. The American also pulled down 14 rebounds.

VEF Riga claimed a 67-62 road win in Estonia over Kalev Tallinn.

Kristaps Janicenoks led the Latvian champions with 14 points as they go to 2-0 in the group.

Group H

Panionios grabbed a big 69-68 win, on the road against Spartak Saint Petersburg.

Marc Carter scored the game-winning free throws for the Greek side as they move to the top of Group H.

Carter led all scorers with 23 points for the winners.

A three-pointer from Chris Lofton with two seconds left gave Besiktas a 72-70 win at Lithuanian side Neptunas.

Bradley Buckman collected 23 points and 13 rebounds for the Turkish side but it will be Lofton who will be remembered for his game-winning heroics.

Martynas Mazeika led Neptunas with 17 points as they fall to 0-2 in the group.

Radnicki edged Finnish side Bisons Loimaa 92-89 to pick up its first win in the Eurocup this season.

Dennis Seeley led the victors with 23 points with Marko Marinovic adding 20.
