Emoni Bates named Gatorade National Boys POTY

Emoni Bates, Gatorade National Boys Player of the Year

Emoni Bates was named Gatorade National Boys Player of the Year earlier today, becoming the only Sophomore to ever do so.

The 6″8 Small Forward, playing for Lincoln High School, is one of the most sought after high school players ever. Playing in the Class of 2022, Bates is currently ranked a 5* forward and the #1 ranked player.

Bates led Lincoln to a 19-3 record this season, before it was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However in the 2018-19 season, he averaged 32.4 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.2 steals as a freshman. Also winning the Player of the Year award for the state of Michigan that season.

Bates is one of the most sought after High School players ever. He already has offers from Duke, Florida State, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan and Michigan State, but he is still undeclared. He may have more offers but ESPN has not updated his profile since August 2019.

Bates is also considered to be the best High School prospect across all of the US, despite still being a sophomore.

Bates joins a list of current NBA players to win the award, with former winners congratulating him. Former winner, Jayson Tatum came to Twitter to send his praise.

Bates joins Tatum, NBA prospect James Wiseman, Knicks wing and former Blue Devil, R.J Barrett and Nuggets wing Michael Porter Jr. as the past 5 winners of the prestigious award.

This may not be the only major accolade for Emoni this year. He has now been put forward as one of the finalists for the Gatorade Male High School Athlete of the Year award, which will be announced in July.
