Ukic to miss start of Euroleague season

Panathinaikos guard Roko Leni-Ukic will miss the start of the Euroleague season due to an Achilles tendon strain in both of his feet.

The seven-year Euroleague veteran returned to Athens from international duty with Croatia with the strain and the club have said that they will evaluate the injury again within the next week. The likelihood is that he will miss the start of the new season, but the club have not confirmed how long he will be out for.

Ukic led Croatia to a fourth-placed finish at Eurobasket last Sunday, but the three weeks in Slovenia, that added up to the training camp and warm-up games took its toll on the 28-year-old.

The Croat started 23 of Panathinaikos’ 28 Euroleague games last season, averaging 8.9 points a game.

Panthinaikos have been drawn in Group D of the Euroleague regular season that includes Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv, Laboral Kutxa, Locomotiv Kuban, Crvena Zvezda and the winner from the additional qualifiers that begin next Tuesday in Vilnius.
