EuroBasket – 2nd round, day 5

Group E action ends today, as either Latvia or Ukraine will join Lithuania, France and Serbia through to the quarter-finals of Eurobasket.

Latvia 56-60 Belgium

Belgium ended Eurobasket on a high note by eliminating Latvia from the tournament, beating them 60-56 in game one at the Stozice.

This result puts the Ukraine through to the quarter-finals of Eurobasket, ensuring their best finish ever in this competition.

In a close game through out, Belgium edged it in the final minutes as Latvia were not able to capitalise on their chances allowing the Lions to keep their advantage that they maintained in the third quarter to get the win.

Sacha Massot, who scored with seconds left to ice the win, led the winners with 14 points. Rolands Freimanis had 10 for Latvia.

Ukraine 63-70 Lithuania

Lithuania scored a victory over Ukraine in a game with little meaning as both teams have advanced to the last eight following Belgium’s win over Latvia that sent the 2015 Eurobasket hosts through.

Linas Kleiza led the Lithuanians with 15 points, cancelling out Sergii Gladyr’s 18 point effort.

Serbia 77-65 France

Serbia beat France 77-65 to top the group as the one half of the second round came to a close.

Nenad Krstic led all scorers for Serbia with 19 points as they won all four quarters, en route to a fairly easy win against a disappointing France team.

Four French players, Nicholas Batum, Nando De Colo, Boris Diaw and Alexis Ajinca all scored 12 points for France.

Group E 1. Serbia, 2. Lithuania, 3. France, 4. Ukraine, 5. Belgium, 6. Latvia
