The relationship between Rudy Gobert & Donovan Mitchell doesn’t appear to be salvageable at the moment

Utah Jazz stars Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell still haven’t mended fences following the discord that stemmed from their positive coronavirus tests last month.

Gobert was the first NBA player revealed to have contracted COVID-19, with Mitchell also testing positive in the wake of his teammate’s diagnosis. And, given Gobert’s antics before finding out he was a carrier, Mitchell was not at all happy, having admitted as much during an interview with Good Morning America.

While there’s no way of knowing who gave it to who, something the team has tried to explain to the young guard, it’s believed that the relationship between the two players is beyond repair.

“It doesn’t appear salvageable,” a source close to the situation told The Athletic, who published a lengthy piece on the fallout from the Jazz organization getting hit with the news that two of their players contracted the coronavirus.

Things don’t appear to be great at the moment, however, there is hope the chemistry will be restored eventually. At least that’s the way Jazz forward Joe Ingles sees it.

“I’m confident our team is going to be totally fine,” Ingles noted. “I heard Donovan’s response (on GMA), or whatever it was, to that question, and a part of that is on Donovan and Rudy to sort out if he’s frustrated with him or whatever. But I have no doubt when we go back to training, or when our season starts again, our team is going to be what we have been and what we are. … I’m confident our team will be completely fine. The chemistry will be fine.”
