Toni Kukoc on not making into Hall of Fame: “It means much more to me that I played alongside Michael Jordan and won NBA titles”

Toni Kukoc, who won three NBA championships with the Michael Jordan era Chicago Bulls, yet again did not make it to the Basketball Hall of Fame. Three former players were inducted this year – Kobe Bryant, Kevin Garnett and Tim Duncan. The 51-year-old Croatian admitted to being frustrated that he is not a Hall of Famer yet.

Via Vlado Radicevic of tportal.hr:

“Honestly, it means much more to me that I played alongside Michael Jordan and won NBA titles. I have no influence on my entry into the Hall of Fame. People who decide should be asked, and I would really like to know who these people are. It is allegedly unknown who they are because they have not been publicly presented. Whether or not I will ever enter the Hall of Fame I really do not know. Would I like it? Of course I would! Well, another year has passed, but nothing happened…

“You know the saying, when it comes to talking about all the biggest players and when they regularly put me among the best European players with Drazen [Petrovic] or [Arvydas] Sabonis, who have been inducted long ago, I can’t say I don’t care. But, on the other hand, I don’t want to spend energy on that.

“After all, what am I going to say about myself? But if my former coaches, former teammates and basketball experts say I am one of the top 3-4 European players of all time, what are we talking about? Maybe they don’t all know what they’re talking about? It doesn’t make sense to talk about that anymore … You know I would rather spend that energy playing an 18-hole golf course.”
