On this day, Carmelo Anthony leads Syracuse to a national championship

17 years ago today, Syracuse defeated Kansas in the 2003 national championship, led by freshman star Carmelo Anthony.

Anthony was named the Tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.

He recorded 20 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists in the championship.

In the Final Four against Texas, Anthony put up 33 points and 14 rebounds and shot 12-19 from the field.

Anthony averaged 22.2 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game in his only season at Syracuse.
