Clippers Close to Signing Mullens

LA Clippers are nearing an agreement with unrestricted free-agent Byron Mullens.

Since the Kevin Garnett deal fell through, the Clippers have been exploring scenarios that would give new coach Doc Rivers some alternatives in the paint. The front office is now finalizing a two-year deal with the 24-year-old big man who last played for the Charlotte Bobcats, according to the latest reports in the US media.

If the deal is completed, Mullens, who averaged 10.4 points and 6.4 rebounds last season, will be the Clippers’ third player acquisition this summer. The team has already traded for guards J.J. Redick and Jared Dudley.

Mullens is expected to be DeAndre Jordan’s backup in coach Rivers’ rotation.
