The Slovenian Basketball Federation have confirmed that Erazem Lorbek will not participate at this summer’s Eurobasket due to injury.

The veteran forward contacted Slovenia coach Bozidar Maljkovic along with national team director Matej Avanzo to inform them that he would need to follow an intense two-month long rehabilitation process following arthroscopic surgery on both knees, on Friday in Spain.

Lorbek’s doctors told him he could resume training before late August, with Eurobasket commencing on September 4.

The 29-year-old made his senior national team debut at Eurobasket 2005 after impressing at the European Championship for Juniors in 2002. He averaged 16 points at Eurobasket in Poland in 2009, as he led Slovenia to a semi-final spot.

The hosts are drawn in Group C where they will face Georgia, Croatia, Poland, the Czech Republic and reigning European champions Spain.
