Teodosic’s injury serious, requires surgery

CSKA Moscow point guard Milos Teodosic’s calf injury will require surgery and his recovery could take several months, club president Andrei Vatutin said in an interview with Rossiya 2 television channel Monday night.

“It’s a tough loss for us. His calf muscle is seriously injured and as of today he will need surgery. I talked to doctors in Germany today, over the next couple of days we should have an answer regarding when, where and who will perform the operation,” Vatutin said on “Nedelya sporta”, Rossiya 2’s weekly nighttime sports show.

The injury rules out Teodosic indefinitely, meaning he will miss the end of the season. CSKA is currently locked in a 1-1 tie with its perennial rival Khimki in the VTB League best-of-five semifinal series.

Vatutin added that “recovery after sustaining similar injuries usually takes more than a month, and it could take two to four months.”

The 26-year-old Serbian playmaker was injured in Sunday’s Game 2 of the series against Khimki. He left the court early in the fourth quarter, clutching the calf of his left leg as he grimaced with pain. Teodosic remained sidelined until the end of the game in which he provided a key input with 15 points to help CSKA win 74-72 and tie the series.

Asked whether CSKA would seek a replacement for Teodosic, Vatutin replied negatively, adding that in the remaining two weeks of the 2012/13 campaign the team would rely “solely on its internal resources.”

Responding to a question about future signings as part of the bid to tweak the roster after the recent failure to win Euroleague, Vatutin said that two new players had already been signed, without disclosing the newcomers’ names or positions.

“Ideally, we’d want to see a team with a greater number of players with serious leadership qualities,” he explained.
