ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne president and majority owner, Tony Parker believes that the French Pro A league should be cancelled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Until then, Parker also believes that the league should not have any champions or relegation and that it should start a fresh next season.
The French legend is currently in self-isolation with his family in San Antonio due to the coronavirus pandemic and is unable to head home.
“The smartest solution is to cancel the season without a champion nor teams relegated, so we can prepare as soon as possible for the next season,” Parker said to French media outlet L’Equipe, about the French League, “Everyone will suffer big losses.”
“I believe we must stop giving false hope,” he added, “We are not going to resume the season. We are awaiting the decision from LNB and FFBB.”
The former NBA legend, however, thinks that the EuroLeague situation is far more complex than that of the French League.
ASVEL are currently joint top of Pro A with a 21-4 record, but are struggling in their first season in the EuroLeague (15th), despite having a strong home record.
“It will be even more complicated in EuroLeague because it depends on more European countries with different health and safety rules,” Parker continued to L’Equipe.
“If the Olympic Games are postponed, the LNB season should be cancelled.
“There’s nothing bigger than the Olympics. I can’t see why we should play basketball when the biggest sporting events are canceled or postponed.”
The majority of basketball league around the globe are currently postponed due to the deadly coronavirus pandemic.
The British Basketball League (UK) and Turkish Superleague (Turkey) were the final two basketball leagues to call their action to a close.
However, they both came under intense scrutiny over the last month or so to cancel or at least halt their league, which they since have.
Since the coronavirus outbreak, the NBA, NCAA March Madness have suspended their seasons. The EuroLeague have postponed their camapign, beyond April 11 as announced today via conference call.
Too add, FIBA have postponed all their events and the board will meet to see what steps need to taken with regards to the Basketball Champions League.
Earlier today, this summer’s Tokyo Olympics have now been postponed until next year, which could put EuroBasket 2021 in question about the its tournament.
