Featuring on the All The Smoke podcast, Paul Pierce admitted that the Boston Celtics didn’t stand a chance against the Miami Heat, when LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh teamed up.

After being quizzed by hosts Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, Pierce described his reaction to the trio at the time as being “world breaking news”. Stating that he knew that the Celtics’ run was over.

“When they said LeBron, Bosh, and Wade was on one team, I was like ‘what?!’. You’re talking about our big 3 was cool. I was like.. ain’t nobody gonna beat them. I said that. When I saw them I was like they doing something different. This is different. This is the next coming of like Jordan and Pippin. I couldn’t believe that they did that. I know our run was over.”

The Boston Celtics won the NBA Championship in 2008. Before losing to the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2010 finals. That same off-season, the Heat added James and Bosh to form a formidable big 3.

The Heat rolled past the Celtics in the 2011 Conference Semi-Finals and the 2012 Conference Finals. James, Wade, Bosh, and Co went on to claim the 2012 and 2013 NBA Championships. Whilst the Celtics fell into a rebuild.
