Rick Pitino will not remain at the head coach position of Panathinaikos, as the “Greens” announced earlier. Both sides mutually agreed to part ways, after the NCAA coach legend agreed to terms with Iona College.

Pitino will return to collegiate basketball for the first time since October 2017. As Panathinaikos’ head coach, he won the Greek Championship last season. Furthermore, he led the “Greens” to the EuroLeague playoffs with 10-9 record in the regular season.

He returned to Panathinaikos last November and led the team to the sixth place in the EuroLeague standings, before the lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak.
