Dirk Bauermann became the third head coach of Lietuvos Rytas after he was appointed as a replacement to Darius Maskoliunas.

The former head coach of German national team and current head coach of Polish national team has most recently coached Bayern Munich. Bauermann parted ways with the ambitious Bundesliga side due to different views about the team’s future between him and club’s management.

It will be the first time for Bauermann to work with a high level team outside Germany. He joins Rytas with already 9 Bundesliga titles under his belt.

The 55 year-old coach signed a deal until the end of the season with an option for another year.

Maskoliunas, who was promoted to the head coach position following the firing of Aleksandar Dzikic at the beginning of the season, failed  to live up to the expectations of Lietuvos Rytas board, according to the clubs’s President Gedvydas Vainauskas.
