Germany international Tim Ohlbrecht has signed a multi-year deal with the Houston Rockets, days after rejecting a short-term contract offered to him by Boston Celtics.

Sources close to the Rockets have reported that Ohlbrecht has penned a three-year deal has he joins fellow Europeans Omer Asik of Turkey and Donatas Motiejunas of Lithuania on the roster.

Ohlbrecht, who debuted for Germany at the Beijing Olympics in 2008, began his career at Leverkusen before playing for Bamberg. He then had spells at Telekom Baskets Bonn and Frankfurt before leaving Germany to make a name for himself in the States.

The 24-year-old joined the NBA D-League side the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, an affiliate of the Houston Rockets without being drafted into the NBA. Ohlbrecht immediately made an impact, impressing sides with his consistent shooting and defensive capabilities.

He leaves the D-League as the league leader in field goal percentage at 60.5 percent and blocked shots, with 1.6 blocks a game. He averaged 13.4 points and 7.4 rebounds in his 32 games with the Vipers.

According to Ohlbrecht’s agent, he turned down a 10-day contract with the Boston Celtics in order to get a more long-term deal.
