Minard in, Jerrells out for Besiktas

The Turkish champions Besiktas have replaced their starting point guard Curtis Jerrells with Ricky Minard.

The veteran player will be returning to Euroleague after three years, with Euroleague 2009/10 campaign with Roma being his last and only participation in Europe;s elite competition.

His last team was Virtus Bologna where he averaged 10.4ppg, 3.8rog and 1.3apg in 23.3 minutes on court per game.

Besiktas coach Erman Kunter justified the signing to the Turkish website Basketfaul: “Although Jerrells was a key part of our team, he started preventing the improvement of his teammates along the way. We could not mold him into the type of the player we wanted, but I still have to admit that he is a very talented player who has helped us a great deal”.

Regarding Minard the he said: “He has a similar style to David Hawkins. He is tough, he can drive, post-up opponent guards and will contribute on both ends of the court. Also it would be good to pave the way for Tutku Acik and Can Akin gain more important roles”.

The deal could be finalised even today.
