David Hawkins tests positive

Turkish media have announced that Galatasaray player David Hawkins has tested positive for a banned substance.

According to NTV SPOR, the Koln testing centre has found that Hawkins’ A sample showed a banned stimulant with the B sample confirming traces of cocaine in the 30-year-old’s system.

If found guilty, Hawkins faces a two-year ban from the sport. the Turkish Basketball Federation have yet to make a statement.

The American veteran is no stranger to drug-related bans – he tested positive for cannabis in 2007 while playing for Virtus Roma – and was given a three-month ban.

Hawkins joined Galatasaray in the summer after helping Besiktas win the Turkish league, cup and Eurochallenge last season. He was named regular season league MVP.

Galatasaray currently sit third in the TBL, behind Banvit and leaders Fenerbahce.
