Khimki on strike but will play Friday, club could be saved soon

BC Khimki are reportedly on strike but all the players will train independently and individually ahead of Friday’s game with Maccabi Electra.

The Russian giants, regular fixtures in European competition and currently third in Group F of the Euroleague Top 16 have not paid their players for an undetermined amount of time and today, Zoran Planinic said to basketball blogger Vladimir Spivak that the team are on strike.

Spivak tweeted the news at lunchtime today but also said that the players are willing to wait as the chemistry and the over friendship within the team is great and they are challenging for trophies and have a good chance of winning something this season.

The team however are training by themselves ahead of Friday’s home game with the Israeli champions.

Khimki are currently 2-1 in the Top 16 having progressed through the Euroleague regular season and they’re 6-2 in the domestic Russian league, second only to close rivals CSKA Moscow but have inflicted their only defeat so far this season.

The Moscow Region team is also unbeaten at home in all competitions thus far.
