Week 1 comes to a close, Eurocup round-up

A round-up of week one in the Last 16 of the Eurocup.

Group I

BC Budivielnik came from behind to defeat BK Banvit 76-69 in the final lot of games in the opening week of Eurocup.

The hosts didn’t make it easy for themselves though as they were behind by 10 in the second as the visitors from Turkey looked superior in every department.

The Ukrainians pushed ahead though in the third period and hit four of the ten three-pointers they connected with in the fourth quarter to take the win.

Leo Lyons had 15 points plus nine rebounds in victory while Dainius Salenga scored 14 points. Chuck Davis had 21 for Banvit.

KK Buducnost were dominant as they defeated Triumph Lybertsy 90-69 in Montenegro.

Up 47-44 at half-time, Buducnost stormed ahead in the third, restricting their Russian counterparts to just nine points, taking a double-digit lead in the process as they saw the game out from there.

Cedomir Vitkovac starred with a double-double of 24 points and 12 rebounds for the victors. Tywain McKee piled up an impressive statline of 18 points, eight rebounds and five assists in vain.

Group J

CEZ Nymburk scored a vital 85-83 win on the road as they defeated Bilbao Basket.

Despite a late surge from the hosts, Nymburk’s Radoslav Rancik sealed the win from the free throw line to hand Bilbao its first Eurocup loss of the season.

Rancik paced the Czech champions with 30 points and seven rebounds. Bilbao were led by Drew Naymick’s 20 points.

Group K

In an all-Russian clash, Lokomotiv Kuban grabbed a road win over Spartak St. Petersburg 84-70.

A dreadful start for Spartak cost them dearly, as Lokomotiv raced to a 26-10 lead after the first ten minutes and the visitors never looked like relinquishing the lead from there.

Derrick Brown led the victors with 21 points while Loukas Mavrokefalides led the way for Spartak with 20 points and nine boards.

27 points from Walter Hodge was enough to give Stelmet Zielora Gora a 76-67 win over Cajasol Seville.

With the game tied at 57 going into the final quarter, the hosts broke the game open mid-way through to grab the victory in a closely-fought contest.

John Holland had 17 for Seville.

Group L

The favourites Unics Kazan began the second stage with an 80-74 away win over Galatasaray.

Chuck Eidson led the Russians with 23 points with Galatasaray’s David Hawkins leading with 20.

Crvena Zvezda alos grabbed an away win as they defeated Ratiopharm Ulm 100-95 in Germany.
