Olympiacos grab vital away win, Euroleague round-up

Olympiacos improved to 4-2 and grabbed a share of second spot in Group C thanks to an 89-72 win away at Caja Laboral.

The defending Euroleague champions were largely untroubled against a poor Liga Endesa side who slip to 1-5 and fall to rock bottom.

Kyle Hines led all scorers with 18 points, supported by Vassilis Spanoulis’ 14 as the Reds outplayed Baskonia in virtually every department. The hosts got to within five points at one stage in the second quarter, but it was as close as they got as the on-form champions pushed the lead out further and were even 20 points up mid-way through the fourth.

“It was a crucial step for us in our way to the Top 16,” Olympiacos coach Georgios Bartzokas said afterwards. “We had two games on the road, first in Milano and tonight here and we showed our character and quality.”

Caja Laboral, who are now on the verge of elimination were led by Brad Oleson, who tallied 13 points.

Despite being held to just seven points in the second quarter, Anadolu Efes claimed a 77-71 victory over EA7 Milano side at the Abdi Ipecki.

Sasha Vujacic led all scorers for the Istanbul side with 29 points as they move to 4-2 in Group C, level with Olympiacos. The Italians, led by Keith Langford’s 15 points fall to 2-4.

“It was a great team effort in the second half to win the game,” Vujacic said. “We were not good enough in the first half, but we responded very well later on.”
