CSKA Moscow’s Sonny Weems has been named the Euroleague MVP for October as he has led his side to a perfect 3-0 record.
Weems, who moved to the Russian capital from Lithuanian side Zalgiris has averaged just over 20 points, leading the league for the month of October and he has done so with consistent accuracy: 65.5% on two-point shots, 50% on three-pointers and 93.3% on free throws overall.
With this year’s Final Four being held in London, there are a few players that would have not played at the O2 Arena. The former Toronto Raptors forward has experienced the bright lights of England’s number one indoor arena, playing two regular season games last year against the New Jersey Nets and he is desperate to make a return.
“It is good to win MVP awards, but my main goal is to win the Euroleague,” Weems said.
“If I win a couple of weekly or monthly MVPs along the way, that will be fine, but my number one goal right now is to try to win the Euroleague. We are still struggling in the beginning of this season. We have a lot of new players and are trying to get used to each other and the coach.
“It is good that even with that; we are working in the right direction right now.”
CSKA Moscow look to extend their unbeaten run to four games as they face up against Besiktas in Istanbul on Friday night.
