As the TMZ sports reports a top basketball recruit who was committed (verbally) to play for Missouri State next season has died in an accidental shooting.

19-year-old Ashley “A.J.” James  a 3-star prospect who had offers from Fresno State, Murray State and USF, among others was killed on Monday night in Chesapeake, Va., according to cops. Police in Chesapeake, Va. responded to an apartment after receiving a call about a man shot. Emergency crews rushed him to a hospital where he later died from his gunshot wound. Investigators say after consultation with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, it was determined no criminal charges would be filed at this time.

Rivals.com rated James as a three-star prospect at the shooting guard position. He had offers from VCU, St. Louis University and Fresno State. A.J. James was a 6-foot-4 shooting guard.
