Group B Euroleague debutants Elan Chalon of France are next up as we look at the French triple-crown winners.
Introduction: Playing in their first Euroleague season, Elan Chalon will have no fear and nothing to lose. The French triple-crown winners will gain valuable experience from appearing in Europe’s best basketball club league as they aim to continue playing in the Euroleague for years to come.
They boast a roster that is largely inexperienced at this level with point guard Steed Tchicamboud the only player with any kind of experience. So he will look to guide the French squad through the motions of Euroleague basketball.
Coach: Gregor Beugeot will be coaching in his first Euroleague season but he was the mastermind behind Elan Chalon’s triple-crown victory last season, the first club to achieve that feat since 2002. Beugeot also led the side to last season’s Eurochallenge final but fell short, losing to Besiktas to finish as runners-up.
This will be a new challenge for Beugeot though, a higher level than Europe’s third tier competition and one that he will look to gain valuable experience from.
Key Player: Steed Tchicamboud will undoubtedly be the team’s leader both on and off the court this season, especially for the Euroleague for which he is the only player with any pedigree at this level.
Tchicamboud will not only need his playmaking abilities, but his scoring touch as well to keep the scoreboard ticking. His most important role though will be to advise his team-mates and to keep the confidence high. This team isn’t expected to go beyond the regular season but Tchicamboud’s job is simply to make them competitive.
Breakout Player: Each player will be looking to make a name for himself this season. The potential is there, they all have to go out there and play hard each game.
Biggest Euroleague Moment: First Euroleague appearance. They did reach last season’s Eurochallenge final.
