The NBA’s all-time leading points scorer, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is to have a statue erected in his honor outside the Staples Center, home of his former club, the Los Angeles Lakers.

Abdul-Jabbar, who retired in 1989 ended his NBA career with 38,387 points overall, spanning 20 years. He won six NBA championships and six regular season MVP awards.

The 19-time All-Star started his career with the Milwaukee Bucks in 1969 before moving to the Lakers in 1975.

The Staples Center’s other tenents, the Los Angeles Clippers have made no comment on the matter. Plans to start work on the statue have not yet begun, a league source says.
