Free agent guard Jonathon Simmons will sign with the Santa Cruz Warriors, the Golden State Warriors’ G League affiliate, in hopes to get an NBA contract.

Simmons reportedly had two 10-day contract offers with NBA teams on the table, but chose to take a different path back to the league, according to Jabari Young of CNBC.

He played with the San Antonio Spurs from 2015 to 2017 and was a key player during the 2017 playoff run, where he averaged 10.5 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.9 assists on 45.6 percent from the field.

Simmons had a career-best season with the Orlando Magic in 2017-2018, averaging 13.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game in 29.4 minutes per game.

He was most recently waived by the Washington Wizards last July after they acquired him from the Philadelphia 76ers during the 2019 NBA Draft.
