The Los Angeles Lakers are waiving DeMarcus Cousins, according to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski.

Cousins is set to leave the Lakers after having played zero games for the championship-chasing side. He signed a one-year deal with the team last July but tore his ACL during a pre-season workout.

On Thursday, team head coach Frank Vogel told reporters the player was a long way from returning.

“I’m not even sure where he’s at with exactly what he’s doing day-to-day,” he said. “I just still know he’s a long way away, but they’ve said they’re not ruling out him returning. That’s really all I can give you.”

This move is likely in a bid to make room for forward Markieff Morris, who was bought out by the Detroit Pistons earlier on Friday and has plans on signing with the Lakers.
