“I was thinking about it for long and finally I decided to make it. I believe every great athlete must leave sports when he is at the top of the hill, not when he is on the way down of it”, commented Garbajosa. In autumn, when the new season in ACB will begin, one of European basketball icons will try to fit in his new role – an assistant coach of Jasmin Repesa in Unicaja Malaga.
Garbajosa won the world championship with the Spanish national team in Japan 2006, silver medallists at the Bejing Olympics in 2008, European champion in Poland, 2009 and two times European runner-up for 2003 and 2007.
His basketball road starts in TAU Ceramica (Vitoria) in Spain, moves to Benneton Treviso in Italy, he continued in NBA with Toronto Raptors before going back in Europe with Khimki (Moscow Region) in Russia and Real (Madrid) and Unicaja (Malaga), where he spent the last season of his active basketball career.
The power forward is a Spanish champion and MVP for 2006.
