Terry Wants Multi-Year Deal

Veteran guard Jason Terry is seeking a multi-year contract in order to stay with Dallas Mavericks.

Terry, who becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer, wants to stay with Dallas Mavericks. But he seeks a multi-year deal.

In an interview with the Dallas Morning News, Terry has said that he has no plans to come back to the Mavericks unless he’s offered a multi-year contract.

“It’s a tough situation,” Terry said. “I’m finally in a position where I can kind of predict my own future, so to speak. I want to stay here in Dallas. That’s always been my goal. But it needs to be long-term. If they’re not ready to step up and do that, then I’ll have to make my home elsewhere.”

Dallas Mavericks plans to pursue Deron Williams this summer and Dwight Howard in 2013. So they will try to have flexibility in their salary cap, and avoid any long-term commitments.

The veteran guard, who played a huge role in Mavericks’ unexpected run to the NBA title last season, has been with the franchise since 2004. But, considering he will be 35 in September, Mavericks front office is unlikely to offer Terry a multi-year deal.
