Montepaschi claims 6th consecutive title in Lega A

Montepaschi Siena recorded their sixth consecutive title in the Italian league after defeating EA7 Emporio Armani Milano in game five of the finals, 84-73.

The Italian powerhouse led by coach Pianigiani celebrated another title at home, with excellent performances by Ksistof Lavrinovic with 22 points, Greek player Nikos Zisis but especially the MVP of regular season and Finals MVP American/Macedonian guard Bo McCalebb that finished the game with 16 points and some remarkable plays.

Milano started well again, winning the first 10 minutes with Bourousis getting some good touches near the basket finishing the quarter with an 18-19 lead. But after that it was all about the “green” team, which made a run to grab the lead at half time by 9 points.

In the start of the third quarter, Milano seemed to want to try to push the tempo on offense but with a bad selection of shots and some good defense by Siena, the gap increased to 16 points almost breaking down the young team from Milan that couldn’t use Radosevic all the match.

Bourousis (18 points) and Malik Hairston (15 points) tried to start a comeback in the last quarter, making some quick shots on offense but it wasn’t enough to overcome the 16 point deficit that they had.

With this win, Montepaschi solidifies is status as the best team in Italy, with Bo McCalebb (who could possibly head to Real Madrid this off season) being the perennial superstar.
