Tony Parker injured in bar brawl

As many of you probably already know, recording artists Drake and Chris Brown got into a heated argument early Thursday morning that soon turned into a full scale brawl. The fight happened in the New York nightclub: Club WIP and was caused by the two bickering over their ex-girlfriend Rihanna.

The argument resulted in a trashed venue due to an uncountable amount of throw glass bottles and other objects. Unfortunately for basketball fans, San Antonio Spurs all-star point-guard Tony Parker was caught up in the incident. The 2007 finals MVP reportedly suffered a left eye injury caused by shards of stray glass.

The news of Parker’s injury got French fans worrying whether their irreplaceable first-choice point guard would be left out for the upcoming 2012 Olympics in London.  In an interview with The New York times Gregory Blachier, Parker put French fans at ease:

“The cornea has been touched. I can’t do anything for seven days … But I was lucky. The injury won’t prevent me from competing [in] the Olympics in any way,”

During the 2011 Eurobasket, Tony Parker was named to the all-tournament team and captained his country to a silver medal whilst leading the team in points and assists with 22.1 and 4.4 respectively. He has also come off arguably his best season in the NBA with the San Antonio Spurs losing out in a tight seven-game series to the Oklahoma City Thunder to deny Parker another place in the finals.

The loss of Parker from the French team would have severely hurt their chances of competing against the USA or at least for a medal. Luckily we will all still see him this summer playing in blue.
