Andrew Albicy’s three-pointer put an end to Fenerbahce’s hopes

Three seconds before the end of the match against Fenerbahce in the EuroLeague, Andrew Albicy of Zenit Saint Petersburg scored a three-point shot for the 81-84 victory.

Before the winning shot, Kostas Sloukas gave hope to Fenerbahce’s fans by also scoring behind the three-point line four seconds till the end of the game. But, the hope for overtime lasted only for a one second when Andrew Albicy put an end to the match.

In the first half, the home team controlled the game, but guests were not allowing Fenerbahce to have an unreachable lead. The Turkish squad led by 5 (43:38) after the first 20 minutes.

Zenit adapted to Fener’s game during the second half and attacked its opponent basket successfully. Both teams scored 12 three-point shots from 26 attempts. But, in the end, Albicy’s one, three seconds before the end of the fourth quarter, is the one that will count.

Albicy finished the game with 12 points, same as Gustavo Ayon (assisted for the winning shot). Mateusz Ponitka of Zenit was the best with 16 points and 8 assists for an index rating of 29, while Evgeny Voronov scored 11 and Tim Abromaitis 10 points.

On the other side, for Fenerbahce’s squad, the best was Nikola Kalinić with 16 points and 4 assists (index rating of 21), while Joffrey Louvergne scored the most points (18) for the Turkish team. Besides those two players, only one with a double-digit score was, already mentioned, Kostas Sloukas (13 points).

This was the fourth win for Zenit Saint Petersburg in the EuroLeague (4-11), while Fenerbahce had his tenth defeat after 15 rounds (5-10).
