Despite being on the verge of joining VEF Riga, Dainius Salenga will not be moving to Latvia after all, as the 34-year-veteran signed a contract with Zalgiris Kaunas.

Salenga’s deal is until the end of the season with an option to extend it for one more year.

The forward, who has spent nine seasons of his career representing Zalgiris, was forced to leave the club last January after testing positive for a banned stimulant.

“I’ve always wanted to say good-bye to Zalgiris by retiring with the club’s jersey and not with a suspension, so I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to play at the top level once again,” said Salenga.

Salenga served a six-month suspension and returned to the court, leading Rudupis in the club’s international debut in Eurocup, averaging 12.7 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.
