Eagles open season with an import spot open

Newcastle Eagles player/coach Fabulous Flournoy is happy with his squad as it stands despite having one import spot available as his side entertain Glasgow Rocks in the BBL curtain-raiser.

The British Basketball League’s most successful club finished last season empty-handed on the trophy front, a rare occurance for this franchise.

Flournoy has been busy recruiting to get back on the winning podium this year – but despite signing Andrew Thomson from Mersey and re-signing veteran Charles Smith, there is still one import slot still left to fill – but the New Yorker is still happy with the players he has right now.

“We obviously do have one import spot open but obviously paperwork issues can make that a 3 or 4 week process,” Flournoy explained.

“I do like our squad as it stands but if the right guy became available (from a talent and chemistry perspective) at a price we could afford, then we would be interested.

“At the moment though I am certainly happy with what I have.”

Newcastle will then take the shortest trip in their history on Saturday evening when they take on BBL new boys, Durham Wildcats, led by the familar face of Dave Elderkin.
