Russia stay perfect, beat Greece

Russia coach, David Blatt said that Russia played their best game of the tournament tonight, as his side beat Greece 83-67 in their penultimate game of Group F.

Timofey Mozgov led Russia with 19 points with Andrei Kirilenko supporting with 13.

Kostas Koufos led the Greeks with 15 points.

“We played a great offensive game tonight,” Russia coach, David Blatt said after the game.

“After 15 minutes we went back to play the kind of defence that we usually play.”

Both sides traded three-pointers to begin proceedings, as Konstantinos Kaimakoglou’s effort was cancelled out by Anton Ponkrashov.

Both sides traded buckets for the majority of the first quarter, with neither side really pulling away. Greece leading 16-15 after the first.

Greece made the first move in the second quarter, as a Papanikolaou and Nikolaos Zisis-led 6-0 run, gave Greece a 38-33 lead – but this was answered in kind by Russia, who turned the tide in their favour, leading 40-38.

The Russians managed to keep their lead, 42-39 at the half.

It was a 10-0 run in the final quarter that proved to be Greece’s undoing, as Russia held Greece to ten points cruised to a victory.
