Lithuania crush Poland

Lithuania improved to 2-0 in Group A thanks to a 97-77 rout of Poland in the final game of day two in Panevezys.

They looked a little nervy in their opening game against Great Britain, but showed no signs of nerves here, as they used a 28-18 second quarter to break the game open.

Poland had no answer to the hosts onslaught. Lithuania out rebounded the 2009 hosts 41-19 and shot 61% from the field.

Mantas Kalnietis led Lithuania with 19 points, six rebounds and six assists.

It was Kalnietis who kept Lithuania in it in the first period, as he scored 10 points in the first quarter as his team-mates were a little cold to start, but they all found their shooting touch half-way through the first as Poland struggled to contain them. Lithuania led 25-20 at the end of the first.

Thomas Kelati was the only real player offering real resistance for Poland for the majority of the game, despite a positive contribution from Adam Lapeta, who finished with eight points and six rebounds. Poland were no match for Lithuania as the hosts took command in the second period.

There were brief signs that Poland might stage a fightback, have trimmed the deficit to eight points in the third, but that was as close as they got as Lithuania hit back to extend their double-digit advantage and they cruised to the victory line.
