EuroBasket hangover: Group C

Montenegro and FYR of Macedonia played out the first overtime game of EuroBasket 2011 with Montenegro claiming a 70-65 success in Alytus.

The victors have Vladimir Dasic to thank for their victory, as he produced an MVP award of 20 points and 16 rebounds. Bo McCallebb led Macedonia with 17.

The game was settled in OT thanks to a Dasic drive in traffic to give Montenegro a four-point lead at 69-65 and put the game beyond their Macedonian opponents.

Croatia won a hard-fought encounter against Finland, in which they came from behind to register the win.

Finland led by double-digits at 42-31, but a 10-0 burst from Croatia brought the game to life, and the Croats, led by Bojan Bogdanovic’s 27 points pulled away in the third and fourth quarters.

Greece, plagued with injuries got their Eurobasket campaign off to an unconvincing start – but they secured a 76-67 victory over Bosnia & Herzegovina.

Despite leading for large periods of the first half, the Bosnians led, and for the majority of the game, it looked like Greece would lose control of the contest.

The bronze medallists in 2009 though came out very professional in the third quarter, as Bosnia failed to close out the game, despite hanging on in there.

Nikolaos Zisis and Nick Calathes both led for Greece with 13, Elmedin Kikanovic led Bosnia & Herzegovina with 15. Bosnia’s key player Miza Teletovic could only manage six points and finished a dismal 0-from-9 from three-point range.
