Eagles secure Thomson

The Newcastle Eagles have signed 6’10 Power Forward Andrew Thomson from Mersey Tigers.

Thomson, who hails from Manchester, developed his skills with the Manchester Magic program before spending a year playing in Spain. For the last three seasons he played for Mersey Tigers and last season was named as BBL’s British Player of the Year.

Originally known for his ability to make three point shots, he has now added a powerful inside presence to his game. Thomson played for England last season but is still awaiting a call-up to the Great Britain squad.

Eagles coach Fab Flournoy said: “Andy was a real thorn in our side last season and I am delighted to welcome him to the Eagles.

“He is a skilled big man whose inside game has really developed over the past couple of years. I see him as a potential focal point of our team and a player who I hope will improve even further during his time with us as Andy undoubtedly has the ability to feature in the GB program for years to come”.
