Anthony Grundy, who played for North Carolina State, the Atlanta Hawks and several teams overseas, passed away at the age of 40.

Grundy was stabbed after an alleged domestic violence dispute in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky.

He played at NC State from 1998 to 2002, where he earned All-ACC First Team and All-ACC Defensive Team honors as a senior.

After coming off the bench in his first two seasons, Grundy led the team in points, rebounds and assists, averaging 17.8 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in his senior year.

Grundy is the ninth leading scorer in NC State history with 1,641 points.

Reaction to Grundy’s death flooded in from former players, including Indiana University head coach Archie Miller, who was teammates with Grundy.

Former NC State player and current Indiana Pacers forward T.J. Warren also tweeted his condolences.

Current NC State head coach Kevin Keatts also shared his thoughts.

Grundy’s professional basketball career lasted from 2002 to 2014, as he played mostly for European clubs and briefly for the Hawks during the 2005-2006 NBA season.

He was the Greek League’s top scorer during the 2007-2008 season when he played for Panellinios B.C., averaging 21.5 points per game, while also being named to the “Greek League Best Five,” also called the “Greek Basket League Pentad,” an annual award for the five best players of each season of Greece’s top-tier level professional basketball club league, the Greek Basket League.
